The music of birds singing can sometimes be shrill and annoying. The whirring of a gentle breeze can instantly become the braying of a grating dry wind. The sound of water gently flowing from indoor or outdoor water fountains can, however, only be calming. Of course, the right fountain can also be a sight of great beauty. All in all, these ancient pieces of once functional, now purely decorative, outdoor architecture make an outstanding purchase and/or do-it-yourself project for anyone who wants to beautify their home and create a relaxing visual and audio environment.
Indoor water fountains can be purchased for relatively little money, but we’re not going to kid you that installing them is going to be quick and that it doesn’t require a certain amount of labor. If you enjoy a somewhat challenging, but far from impossible, DIY project, installing a fountain may be just the ticket. If you’d prefer to pay a professional to do it, well, there is very definitely an upside to that approach as well. It often comes down to an issue of time versus money. Our advice for would-be DIYers is to really investigate the ins-and-outs of fountain installation before embarking on a project. If you’re not sure about it, odds are you may be better off having a pro handle the duties.
You’ll need to take a few other matters into consideration before installing cheap water fountains. The first is conservation. Although fountains recycle water, if you live in a dry climate where drought is an issue, you will especially want to investigate how much moisture will be lost in the course of use. The other issue is power, although fountains are generally driven by electricity, they use relatively little energy. You may nevertheless want to consider going completely green with a solar powered fountain. The thought of keeping your fountain’s carbon footprint minimal is almost as relaxing as the sound of gently flowing water in a garden.
